Fight Weinstein's NC Rating Valentine-17 Blue

Weinstein Company will appeal the MPAA's decision to slap Blue Valentine with NC-17 rating. NC-17 rating is basically the kiss of death because no one under 17 can see the movie, obviously, and more importantly, some theater chains will not even screen the film with that rating. The TWC hopes they can present a convincing argument why it should be changed to R-rated when they met with representatives of the MPAA in November.

"We are taking every step possible to contest the MPAA's decision," said Harvey Weinstein in a statement on the rating. "We appreciate the work the MPAA and we hope that, after having the opportunity to sit down with them, they will see that we are a fair appeal, and the film, which is an honest and personal portrait of a relationship, would be harmed by such values."

Scenes from the film obtained by NC-17 rating involves a married couple (played by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams) drunken sex in a hotel room. MPAA has been widely criticized in the past to the film rating process. It's remarkable to me that a movie with graphic scenes of mutilation, bloody violence, etc., can get the R rating, while what sexual nudity or by generating an NC-17. There's something wrong with the system used to assess what is appropriate for the audience.
